Support
Lake/Sumter AAUW supports STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education for girls and women interested in STEM fields and college scholarships for women from Lake and Sumter Counties who are completing their baccalaureate degrees.

We welcome donations for mission-driven branch programs, including Tech Trek for rising 8th grade girls and Scholarships for college/university women completing their baccalaureate degrees. These programs are unique and distinguish Lake/Sumter AAUW from all other charities in our area.

-
Our Tech Trek program supports rising 8th grade girls to encourage their interest in STEM fields. Middle school is the time when girls step back from those areas, so encouraging them seeks to increase the numbers of women in STEM in the long term. Other programs in our area focus on scholarships for college students, so supporting middle schoolers is distinctive.

-
Although we also offer College Scholarships, our awards differ from all others as we target women who are completing the last two years of their undergraduate degrees. Often this is a challenge for women, many of whom may be single mothers or economically vulnerable in other ways. All other scholarships in our area focus on high school seniors who will be starting college. Our scholarships are distinctive because of our focus on helping women complete their college studies.
