Lake/Sumter Branch
Fundraising Resources
Fundraising has been central to the Lake/Sumter branch's operations since our beginnings. Recently, we applied for and were granted tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) charity. Here are two documents to help future fundraisers understand and implement our tax status.

Over time, the branch has held numerous events to raise funds. Unfortunately, few have after-action reports that will help future fundraisers. Presented here are after-action reports and other documentation available for some recent fundraisers.
Mah Jongg Celebrations
The Branch has hosted three "Farewell to the Old Card" Mah Jongg Celebrations since 2019. Together, they raised just under $40,000.
We held Taste & Bids in 2012 and 2014. Most of the available documentation comes from the 2014 event. While there are no after-action reports, the documentation for 2014 is extensive and instructive.
Hosted by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, the International Food Tasting and Dance Performance is a one-off but well-documented event.
Music of the Night featured an elegant sit-down dinner and a music and dance performance by Lindy & Greg. Dinner music feathered The Shades of Blue Octet. Lindy & Greg are professional entertainers who have been resident members of a professional theatre in Tennessee, and they have been headlining performers on the American Empress riverboat.
The Sumter County Adopt-A-Precinct Program (AAP) provides the opportunity for Lake/Sumter AAUW to raise funds to support fundraising goals while providing voters with fully trained and staffed precinct workers on Election Day. Our Branch began participating in AAP for the 2022 mid-term elections and continued through the 2024 election season.
In addition to the events documented above, the branch has held book sales, musicales, a casino night, annual drawings of donated jewelry, fashion shows, concerts, and an array of special events. We have photos and artifacts from these fundraisers, and you will be able to view them in our Digital Scrapbook when it is completed.
